Each year on the fourth Thursday in April, families across the country celebrate Take Your Child to Work Day, a meaningful event that gives children ages 4 to 15 a glimpse into the working world. The day is designed to spark curiosity about different careers, highlight the importance of education and hard work, and deepen the bond between children and their parents or guardians by sharing a window into daily professional life.
This year, the event fell on April 24, and Learning Resources, Educational Insights, and hand2mind welcomed over 70 children to its headquarters in Vernon Hills, Illinois for a day of exploration, learning, and play.
The day kicked off with a warm welcome from CEO Rick Woldenberg, setting the tone for a fun-filled, educational experience. The morning featured interactive stations where children got hands-on time with popular products from the company’s well-known brands—including Playfoam® , Gears! Gears! Gears!®, and Numberblocks®. A special highlight was the chance for kids to play with unreleased toys set to debut in 2026 and beyond.
Midday, the children were treated to guided tours of the company’s offices, offering a behind-the-scenes look at various departments and the people who help bring the company’s products to life. After lunch, craft stations featuring best-sellers like the Educational Insights Pom Pom Craft Kit let the kids get creative before they wrapped up the day shadowing their parents or guardians at work.
Learning Resources, Educational Insights, and hand2mind’s long-standing commitment to education, innovation, and family values made the event especially resonant. With continuous family-ownership spanning four generations, the companies continue to foster a culture where families and learning go hand in hand—an ethos that was vividly brought to life as employees shared their passion and purpose with their children.
More than just a fun field trip, the event aimed to inspire the next generation and help them envision their own futures—possibly even in the world of educational toys.
