Play-Doh

Play-Doh was invented by Noah McVicker in the 1930s as a substance to clean coal residue off of wallpaper. In the 1950s, the compound was reworked and started being marketed for children to play with. McVicker and his relatives formed the Rainbow Crafts Company to produce and market Play-Doh. General Mills purchased the company in 1965. Rainbow Crafts and Kenner Products merged in 1971, and both were purchased by Tonka in 1987. Hasbro acquired Play-Doh in 1991 and continues to produce it. The compound is made up largely of salt, water, and flour, and should not be consumed.
